The only thing more important to a man’s face than the experience of an incredible shave is how it retains moisture. Our faces get the most exposure to the elements than any other part
of our body. In order to retain a youthful and glowing complexion without an oily shine, we need to actively manage our skincare routine. The only way to do this effectively is with the right tools.
Rinsing with soap and water alone will leave your face dry and dull.
3 easy steps to keep your skin hydrated
The Process:
- Cleanse: In the shower (preferred) or at the sink, use a lightweight cleanser to rinse your face. Using a cleanser instead of soap (come on guys) will give your face a whole new clean that your pores will thank you for.
- Exfoliate: Exfoliating gets rid of dead skin cells as well as dirt that may be embedded further than your cleanser could reach. It is important, and I cannot stress enough that you only exfoliate once or twice weekly. Any more than this and you will be doing yourself a disservice. Yes, too much of a good thing ca truly be bad.
- Moisturize: Lastly, but certainly not least, moisturize that mug! Using a daily moisturizer will ensure your skin is hydrated and looking polished.
- Tip: Remember, a little goes a long way. Use a pea sized amount on your finger tip, then rub with your two first fingers on each hand, and apply over your face using an upward, circular motion. Adding more product will only clog your pores, which is what we are trying to avoid.
With these 3 easy steps, you are on your way to radiant skin that even the most rugged among us can appreciate.
That’s great, but with such an over-saturated market, which products do I use?
Excellent question. What we use is certainly just as important as how we use it. Considering we all have varying skin types, it is important to find what works best for you. There is no one size fits all product out there, but don’t let that discourage you. Most stores will offer you samples to try before you buy. Sephora is great because they will e-mail you information for the products you are sampling. (No, there is no shame walking into that store.)
Here are some recommendations from yours truly (in no particular order)
The Tools:
Christian Dior has a wonderful line I have been using for years, and continue to use daily. Their cleansers work best for me since I have oily/sensitive skin, but will work great for many skin types.
Amore Pacific, a Korean based company that has a wide variety of products that work extremely well. I recommend their Treatment Enzyme Peel, which is a water-activated exfoliator and extremely gentle on the skin. To complement the exfoliator is their Moisture Bound Refreshing Hydra-Gel moisturizer that goes on light and spreads extremely well.
Clarins is a great brand equal in effectiveness with a variety of products for all skin types and a lower price point to boot. Their exfoliators are non-abrasive and give your face the clean it deserves.
With this simple facial skin care process, as well as only a few items, you can now keep that rugged mug looking youthful, healthy, and refined every day.
